Parrots in their natural environment sleep at night and many parrot owners do not realize the importance of this as regards the health of their parrot pet.

Pet parrots most definitely need regular sleep at night and in fact most need about 12 hours good sleep, otherwise they can suffer in their health. All creatures need regular sleep and the same goes for your pet parrot. In face a parrot can become quite unwell if he does not get a reasonable amount of sleep.

How to ensure a good night’s sleep for the parrot.

A parrot cannot tell you if it is tired. So it is up to the ‘parrot parent’ to make sure that the parrot gets enough sleep at night. If you own a parrot that lives in the house with you the best set up is to have a ‘night cage’ where you can put him and cover it up for uninterrupted sleep. If your parrot lives in an aviary outside the night and day hours will take care of themselves.

The rewards will be well worth it as you will have a much happier parrot and if you are training your parrot you will have much more success with a parrot that can focus on ‘the lessons’ rather than a parrot that gets aggressive because it is so tired.

Some signs of not enough sleep.

The funny thing is, parrots are not unlike humans in that they will become irritated, short tempered and generally cranky if they do not get the required amount of sleep. If your parrot is cranky you will soon know because he will not be so friendly. Of course, there could be other reasons why your friend is starting to get nasty, but one easy factor to calculate is whether it is getting about 12 hours sleep a night.

If there are family members around the cage all day and interacting with the parrot a lot of the time, the night sleep is crucial, but if the owners are out at work all day and their interacting time is in the evening, that is not so bad because the parrot will be able to nap during the day. But even under these circumstances if would be a good idea to partly cover the cage while you are at work. The covering of the cage just gives that feeling of a natural environment and a happy contented parrot will be the result.

Healthy, happy parrots are just the best company and so much fun and they also learn the quickest when they are well and contented.

One of the sheer delights of owning a parrot is seeing results for all the parrot training that you do with your friend. Parrots love to be trained and they are very interactive when you give them your time. Parrot tricks are many and varied, but one of the first tricks most owners teach is to get the parrot to ‘step up’ onto their hand.

Parrot tricks are great for your pet parrot because if the owner is not around they can become quite lonely and bored which is not good for their health. They are flock birds and if they do not have a companion in the cage with them then they need to be taught tricks so that they do not become upset and unwell. A happy parrot is an amazingly good companion.

Here is something that can be taught to a pet parrot.

Because owners like to carry their parrot around, ‘stepping up’ is one of the first tricks often taught. This is simply getting the parrot to step onto your finger (or arm if it is a larger bird). Extend your finger in front of the parrot’s feet and ask it to “step up”. Repeat this command several times in a calm, soothing voice so as not to frighten the bird. If necessary, hold some food in front of the bird, out of reach so that it will move forward. When the bird does what it is supposed to do give it a small treat.

“Turning around” is another trick that birds will learn quite quickly. The idea is to get the parrot to do a full turn on the perch. To start this trick, hold a piece of food to the side of the parrot so that it has to turn its head. Ask it to “turn around” and as it reaches for the food move it behind the bird so that it turns completely around on the perch. Once it has turned around, give it a treat.

Over time your parrot will gain more confidence and he will do all sorts of tricks of his own. The tricks that they get up to will depend on the type of toys that you give them. They have really inquisitive minds and like small children, they will find things to do with new toys.

Teaching a parrot to talk.

One of the very important steps when teaching a parrot to talk is to talk loudly clearly. Each syllable needs clear pronunciation so that the parrot can hear and be able to mimic the sounds.

It is best to teach the parrot only a few words at a time otherwise they will get confused, and also it is best if there is only one teacher. This way the parrot gets used to the vocal sounds and is not confused by the different accents and voice tone.

Regardless whether you are teaching your parrot tricks or to talk, the parrot will absolutely love the interaction and all the attention. You can bet that all the praise you heap on him will not be lost and that his ego will get a huge boost.

Bird Feeders Information

If you wish to draw in a lot of birds, you have got to know where to place the bird feeder pole and the bird feeder. When you make the seed a lot more available to the birds, they very easily find it and visit all the time. You may be confused as to where to locate your feeders though. Below is some information that really should help you figure it out.

Birds locate their food by sight rather than by their sense of smell. So be sure that the birds are able to see the feeder. This way they will swiftly get accustomed to visiting the feeder.

Place the feeders in parts of the yard that happen to be fairly calm, but where you can still see them. It is great to be able to see them as you look out the windows of your home. This way you’ll be able to watch the birds for hours if you wish. So don’t forget this when you are ready to position the wild bird feeder.

You want the location to be easy to get at so you can load the feeder. Even in lousy weather, you need to be able to easily replenish your feeder.

Also, place your feeders near some kind of protection like trees or shrubs. By doing this the birds have a location where they are protected while they wait to get at the feeders. You need to keep the bird feeder pole and bird feeder far enough away from this shelter so squirrels are not encouraged. Additionally, your outdoor cats will have much more trouble pouncing on the birds if you give some thought to where you position your bird feeders.

Select a spot where the overflow of seed, feathers, and bird droppings will never matter. A few of the commercial seeds have additives so they’ll not germinate. This might also cause other plants not to sprout. Remember this when selecting the spot.

Don’t put all your feeders at the identical height. The height that the bird feeder pole needs to be will depend on which birds you are attempting to attract. Perform some study so you will have all your feeders at the appropriate heights.

Now understand that many birds desire platforms to feed on rather than the hopper or tube feeders. So you should definitely employ a few platforms scattered about. These platforms can sit on top of the bird feeder post, hang from one, or hang from a tree.

Various other birds are ground feeders and may eat up the seeds the other birds push out of the feeder. This can help clean up part of the mess the birds create. No need to put out additional seed for these types of birds. The other birds will drop sufficient to feed them.

With the information above, you should better understand where to position a bird feeder pole and bird feeder now. You’ll enjoy many hours of observing the birds come and go. It’s also fun to make a list of the birds that visit your yard. This is known as life list by professional birdwatchers. So have fun today and set up some feeders for your feathered friends.

Pet Birds | Pet Bird Cages

A pet bird cage is the creatures home sweet home. This home is your birds inner sanctum. It is a place that the bird will feel secure and can be happy in a safe habitat. Just like up humans. Our home is our castle where we can be the king. Pet bird cages allow the bird to be the king of their homes. You should remember this while looking at and selecting a pet bird cage.

When looking, if you are considering discount bird cages, make sure you pick a good one. Besides the previous conditions that should be met, convenience and a pet bird cage that is easy to clean should also be taken under advisement. It really is not all that easy to get all of this. You have to look around and compare many different bird cages to make the right choice.

What size should your cage be?

Obviously don’t get a cage where the bird can’t move. You also do not want a cage that takes up half your living room either. The general rule for picking out the right size pet bird cage is this. Bigger birds, like a macaw, should be able to fully spread its wings in all directions. Smaller birds like canaries are like to fly more than sit on a bar. A bigger pet bird cage would be the choice to allow them to fly around in it. Just remember that a bigger cage requires more cleaning.

How far apart should the bars on cages be?

This is a giant safety issue with the bird that will be occupying this cage. The bigger the cage, the more space between the bars there will be. No bird, and I emphasise this again, NO BIRD should be able to stick its head through the bars of the cage that it is living in. You are just asking for the bird to break its own neck or strangle itself by having bars that are to far apart. A lot of the newer pet bird cages vary the spacing between the bars. This will allow a pet bird owner to purchase a big cage that is safe for a small bird.

What should my pet bird cages be made of?

Metal is the most common and most popular material for bird cage construction. Wrought iron is a popular material for these cages. Because the cages made from wrought iron are usually the least expensive, owners of larger birds tend to buy these cheap cages. This iron is made in mexico most of the time and is painted black. The paint can come off on the bird getting your little friend dirty. You also have to make sure there is no lead in that paint, which there probably isn’t. You can have the pet bird cage sand blasted to take all the paint off. Then have it powder coated for a long lasting and easy cleaning bird cage.

Stainless steal cages are also popular for their easy to clean characteristics. You must make sure that the bird can not get access to the welds. The bigger birds will gnaw at the welds until they break. You will come one day to find the bird out of the cage.

Wood cages. Not advisable to use. They are hard to clean and very unsanitary. The wood is very porous and holds germs. The bird will also chew up a wooden cage. Do not get a wooden cage for any size bird.

What shape should my pet bird cage be?

It can be any shape you like. Round, square, oval, triangle or any other exotic shape you can find. You must make sure that the bar spacing of the whole cage is safe for the bird. Bird cages that have spaces between the bars that narrow will catch the birds feet, toes and wings. This will lead to a seriously injured bird or even a dead bird. Always remember to take into consideration how hard it will be to clean the cage.

How big should the door on the cage be?

The bigger the door the pet bird cage has on it, the easier it will be for you to clean. The downside of a big door is it makes it easier for the bird to get out. The latch on the door should be easy for you to get open but be bird safe to. Bigger birds are great locksmiths. They will figure out how to open a latch. They have all day every day to practice this. If you know someone with a large bird, a padlock on the door may be used. This is just so the bird can’t open the latch.

I love pets. No matter what pet you have, at some point you will be chasing them. Get yourself a nice comfortable and affordable pair of discount basketball shoes to do the chasing. You can find great deals at discounted prices over at http://www.discountbasketballshoes.org/.

If you’ve just adopted a beautiful bird only to find that your are allergies rev up when you come into close contact with the bird for prolonged periods of time, you may be allergic to your bird.

Don’t despair because as scary as this discovery can be, here are 7 things you can do as well as changes you can make to enjoy your bird while keeping your allergies under control.

Keep the Bird’s Room and Cage Clean-This cannot be stressed enough. Keep the cage clear of dropping and feathers, vacuum regularly, mop the floor daily, and change its drinking water as often as needed to keep it fresh. This is of course healthy for your bird, and it also prevents mold growth.

If you feed your bird fresh foods (and it will love you for this), be sure to throw them away after several hours to avoid mold growth.

Shower with Your Bird-This is convenient way to give your bird a bath, and spend time with it in an environment where the dander is low.

Bird perches are relatively inexpensive and are easily installed. Make sure they are placed away from direct spray, and turn the nozzle to a super gentle spray setting.

You’ll know immediately whether your bird likes the water. And if it does, it will do the rest for you. Always check with your vet about what products to use and how often to use them.

Wear a Mask-If you are the one doing the daily cleaning, be sure to wear a mask when you are performing task that are likely stir up dander and feathers. Your local hardware store is sure to carry a variety.

Experiment until you find one that allows you to be most comfortable when cleaning up after your bird.

Wash Your Hands-If you choose not to wear gloves when cleaning, be sure to wash your hands when you’re done cleaning and before you rub your eyes. This will help cut down on direct contact with a number of allergens.

Remove Fabrics and Upholstery-This process may have to be a gradual one, but it is well worth the time, money, and effort in terms of the significant improvement you will see in your allergies.

Draperies, carpet, upholstered furniture make great place for dander to hide, and sitting, dusting, and even vacuuming can send a ton of dander airborne. This makes it easy for it to invade your eyes, nose, and throat triggering the symptoms that can make you so miserable

Change Your House Filters Often-Get the smallest particulate size filter that they make for your central system. Start by changing them once a month. Take note of whether you find less dust on the furniture and floor. If this does decrease the dust, go to 2 months.

Gradually lengthen the frequency of filter changes until you have found the least number of changes that produce the desired result. Mark the dates on you calendar, and stay regular with replacing them.

Use a HEPA Air Purifier-Cleaning the air with a high efficiency particle arresting (abbreviated as HEPA) air purifier assures you that for every 10,000 particulates greater than .3 microns, it will remove 99,997 of them leaving only 3 out of 10,000.

Providing clean, filtered air all day every day is good for both you and your bird. Increase the rate of air exchange when cleaning the room and cage to keep the dander count low and the air quality high. And remember, clean air also cuts down on the spread of airborne disease and infections for both you and your bird.

There used to be a time when animal lovers would fairly very much be classified into one of two types. You had been either a cat particular person or a canine particular person, based on your preference for house pets. But today that arrangement appears overly simplistic, particularly when you think about how quite a few individuals now maintain Capuchin monkeys, pot-bellied pigs, hedgehogs and other uncommon animals as pets. It appears there’s usually a blurb inside news about someone’s pig escaping the yard or someone else trying to smuggle unusual birds to the country by stuffing them down his pants. Apparently, dealing in extraordinary pets is large business these days — which almost certainly also explains the rise in stores promoting incredible pet supplies.

I continually wondered how people feed and consider care of their exceptional creatures. I necessarily mean, a pig almost certainly eats just about something, but what do you feed a chinchilla? Does a raccoon have to be groomed regularly? Does anyone make toys for genets? You can not just find unique pet supplies correct alongside the canine meals and catnip on the corner shop, so in which does the stuff occur from? The place wherever you’ll be able to discover everything, needless to say: the internet!

Yes, if you are from the marketplace for amazing pet supplies, your ideal bet would be to go on-line and start looking for particular products for whatsoever critter, reptile, or bird you occur to personal. A Kansas resident who’s raising a wallaroo may well have to grow specialized grasses or brush from seeds ordered in Australia. An Iowa resident might need to order a hedgehog habitat or foods mix from the web retailer dependent in Florida. Regardless of what type of product you’re shopping for, it’s a whole lot easier to come across exotic pet supplies on-line than to try to rustle up the identical items from stores close to your residence.

But just simply because incredible pet supplies are widely accessible, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should run correct out and try to adopt one of the exotics that I mentioned above. You will find still several other points to look at very first, for example your state laws. Quite a few states expressly prohibit maintaining creatures like pot-bellied pigs or monkeys in residential locations, and trying to circumvent the law could find yourself with you in jail and your beloved companion confiscated by authorities. In addition, you’ve to give significant thought to veterinary treatment. Your animal will require program checkups for sure, and could need to have emergency treatment throughout its lifetime. Not every vet is capable of handling exotics, so you can end up using a really ill animal on your hands at some point.

The bottom line is that discovering a location to buy discount incredible pet supplies is just component of the equation. Prior to you rush into any huge choices about bringing a extraordinary animal into your house, please do your self a favor by evaluating regardless of whether or not you’ve the resources to attention for one of these pets.
